Rainfall Mapper Case Studies

Rainfall Mapper case studies demonstrate how spatial rainfall data can be explored across different Australian landscapes. Each case study uses a selected area and time period to show how rainfall can vary across nearby locations, and how this information may support agriculture, catchment management, environmental monitoring and land-use decision-making.

The case studies are designed to help users understand the practical value of area-based rainfall mapping and the types of insights that can be generated using Rainfall Mapper.

Victoria

This case study uses two Victorian rainfall examples to show how Rainfall Mapper captures localised paddock-scale rainfall patterns that BoM gauges and SILO models may not fully represent.

New South Wales

This case study uses a localised rainfall event near Urana in the NSW Riverina to show how Rainfall Mapper captures patchy paddock-scale rainfall patterns that BoM gauges and SILO models may not fully represent.

Western Australia

This case study uses the February 2026 rainfall from Tropical Cyclone Mitchell to show how Rainfall Mapper captures paddock-scale variation across WA’s Mid West and Wheatbelt that BoM gauges and broader models may miss.
